Cryptology, patents, Warmachine Mk 2 and even the CIA all get discussed this episode! Yep, we're not sure how that happened either. First up, patents: how do they work and why do you need them? We had such a great response to our show about Trademarks we asked Romeo from Battlefoam to come on and talk about the how's and why's of patenting something like a fancy pants laser system to cut foam. Later Total Fan Girl chats with Elonka Dunin, a world renown expert on cryptology who has done work for the CIA!! But more importantly, she's a gamer. Finally, the D6G team takes a hard look at Warmachine Mark 2. The book has been out a couple months now, Force books are on the streets, and the boys have played more than a few games. Is it everything we hoped for? Oh, and listen close to the beginning of the show for news about a new product from our friends at Lone Wolf Development!! Ep 49 is a big show: Trademark Law, gaming mods for the blind, painting tips, and how to build an old west building are all cramed togeather and somehow make sense. (we hope) Up first: Tactica Trademark! Recently one of our sponsors came under fire for sending out C&D letters regarding their trademark. Since we actually have a lawyer on staff here at the D6G we thought it would be interesting to go through the ins and outs of Trademark and copyright protection for companies in our industry. Why do they do it, why should we care, and when should we call foul? We also have Colen McAlister on from "Lone Wolf Development" to discuss the recent Internet flap over their C&D letters. Later, Total Fan Girl interviews a physics student who came up with an innovative way to modify Settlers of Catan for sight impared players. Finally, Craig takes control and gives us a bunch of great painting tips focusing on building terrain. He even gives step by step instructions on how to build a simple "old west" style building. What changes are coming to the game industry in 2010? The D6G team pulls out their crystal ball and attempts to answer that very question. Heck, we might even be right about one or two. Later, a favorite segment makes a return: Mulling Mechanics. This time around we look at board game mechanics. What are some common mechanics, how do they work, and what do we think of them? Plus, there may or may not be some discussion of Avatar throughout the episode. We just can't help it.
